Hello server owners! Every week we look at what’s actually happening in the self-hosted gaming world — server-relevant updates, new mods, and community highlights worth your click. Here’s your week.
Project Zomboid — The Snail Strikes Back
The immortal snail finally got a speed update: the mod now moves 1 tile per hour, with a “Reddit” speed option in the sandbox settings. Slow, but relentless — and it works on dedicated servers, so expect the classic “snail reached the spawn” tickets.
- The immortal snail now moves 1 tile per hour — Steam Workshop
- The PZwiki published a statement against AI-generated edits — no LLMs, no AI spellcheckers, no AI images. For anyone maintaining server documentation or mod lists on the wiki: human hands only, or your edits get rolled back.
- Also trending: a player’s question about world settings for a Walking Dead-inspired server — a good reminder to tune difficulty, zombie count and loot on your own dedicated server instead of taking the defaults.
💡 Workshop mods work on dedicated servers too — add them to your server’s mod list and players pick them up on join.
Lethal Company — Quiet Week, Big Questions
No major update this week, so the community is looking ahead: players are debating whether Zeekerss will ever reveal JEB’s appearance — and the answer is trending toward “yes”, since Zeekerss has said he plans to add an ending. For dedicated server owners: new content means new maps and new modding surfaces, so test the latest build before updating your server.
- The fan film keeps producing new clips — the community’s labor of love continues.
- Mod question of the week: is there a mod to revive players with an item? The modding scene is still the #1 way to change how your server plays.
Palworld — 1.0 Hits 960,000
The week’s headline: Palworld 1.0 peaked at ~960,000 concurrent players on Steam — about five times what Pocketpair’s publishing lead expected. At Gamescom he admitted 200,000 would have been “party time”. The launch even crashed public servers and hosting capacity — which is exactly why a dedicated server is the most reliable way to play with your friends.
- Pocketpair lead: 960k concurrents on 1.0 launch
- “I’m sure our day’s coming” — on player counts and solo servers
- Meanwhile the Palworld Online closed beta is revealing new content: a new Pal named Celis (a mini Lunaris) and a fresh elemental alignment chart the community is already dissecting.
- Community mod showcase: a small base-boundary mod that’s getting a lot of love.
DayZ — The Endgame Problem
A big interview with Stephen Radtke, creator of DayZ: 14 years on, he’s still searching for survival gaming’s biggest problem — a satisfying endgame. “I think I am going to die without having solved it.” For server owners that means: the community is still here, and your server’s rules are what give players a reason to keep coming back.
- 14 years on, the creator of DayZ is still searching for a solution
- Also: a player got DLSS 5 neural rendering running in DayZ in an offline test — graphics tech keeps creeping closer to the survival scene.
