Self-Hosted Games This Week — 14–20 Sep 2026

Hello server owners! Every week we look at what’s actually happening in the self-hosted gaming world — server-relevant updates, new mods, and community highlights worth your click. Here’s your week.

Project Zomboid — B42 Gets a Map Engine

The week’s big builder story: a community tool that turns real places into B42 maps — screenshot in, custom terrain out. If you run a dedicated server on a custom map, this is a shortcut worth a look. (B42 is still the development milestone, so test maps before you ship them to your community.)

New this week: a play-as-a-kid mod — smaller hitbox, slower stats, a fresh way to suffer. Workshop mods work on dedicated servers too: add them to your server’s mod list and players pick them up on join. And a classic community reminder: corpse sickness is no joke — several threads this week on players dying to rot, not zombies. Tune your server’s disease and corpse-handling settings if freshies keep wiping.

Lethal Company — Wesley’s Moons Ships

The week’s headline for modded servers: Wesley’s Moons, the mod that follows the in-game version numbers, dropped a fresh update — new moon content for communities that want a persistent, custom LC experience. It’s one of the most downloaded mods on Thunderstore, so expect more players asking for it on your server.

Community corner: the maneater meta keeps turning — how do you actually stop one? — and a spicy item theory that spray paint is the best utility item in the game. Small stuff, but it shapes your server’s loadout rules.

Palworld — Tokyo Game Show, Pocketpair’s Biggest Booth Ever

Palworld is huge at Tokyo Game Show 2026 (the show runs this very week): Pocketpair announced its largest-ever booth — 23 cosplayers, a life-size Pal statue, and the Dynamoff card game with animated cards on display. The franchise momentum keeps climbing, which keeps pushing players into dedicated servers when the public infrastructure buckles.

Also trending: new player woes and the evergreen food-decay-in-the-nutshell threads — if you host, these are the two things your server rules should answer in the welcome message.

DayZ — New Motorbikes, Better Ragdolls

The server-relevant item this week: new motorbikes plus improved ragdoll physics. New vehicles on a dedicated server means new roleplay, new heists, and new arguments about what’s allowed in the spawn zone. Patch notes and vehicle tuning are worth a read before you update.

Community building of the week: a player built a pitstop for freshies near the coast — a small base that does real community service. And the eternal server-owner complaint, front page again: waiting an hour to see anyone — population is a server problem, and it’s why dedicated hosts keep a tight core community instead of a lobby pool.

Which of these mods or updates do you want on your server? Tell us in the comments — or host your own dedicated server at gameservercentral.eu.
