Hello server owners! Every week we look at what’s actually happening in the self-hosted gaming world — server-relevant updates, new mods, and community highlights worth your click. Here’s your week.
Project Zomboid — Hoodies, Crowbars & Vents
- Hood + cap mod in the works — a community modder is building a mod that lets you wear hoods under caps, fixing one of the wardrobe’s most annoying limits. Worth watching if your server runs a modded loadout. Thread
- PSA: vent vaulting glitch — you can vault down air conditioner vents and get stuck. Players on dedicated servers: expect the bug report tickets. Thread
- First Person Zomboid keeps climbing the charts — the view-mode mod is still trending. A different feel for your server, and it’s free. Thread
- Community mood: “I love how non-elitist the Zomboid community is” — the sandbox server crowd is in good spirits.
💡 Workshop mods work on dedicated servers too — add them to your server’s mod list and your players pick them up on join.
Lethal Company — The Fan Film Is Coming
The top story of the week is a live-action Lethal Company fan short film — trailer and stills are circulating, and the production is clearly a labor of love. Fan content like this is what keeps the dedicated server scene alive between updates.
Also trending: a personal wishlist for future updates — the community’s ask list for what Zeekerss ships next — and “the bracken are evolving”, an observation that’s getting the lore heads talking.
Palworld — The $500M Club
A study of ~98,500 Steam games put Palworld among the sandbox genre’s biggest successes, with an estimated $500M in Steam revenue — a number that explains why dedicated-server demand keeps climbing. Creative corner: hand-made Sol/LED Pal spheres for a friend group, and a “Pal Recovery” Center concept — exactly the kind of base idea that works on a dedicated server.
DayZ — Badlands Gets a Date
The big one: DayZ Badlands has an official release date — October 15, 2026, confirmed via the Gamescom release-date trailer. It’s the third official expansion, built around Nasdara — a 267 km² desert map west of Chernarus — with a base rebuilding system and PIN-code door locks. For dedicated server owners: start thinking about RAM, storage, and config now. A map this size changes what “enough” means. Also this week: the community’s advice is to wait on the Switch 2 version until it’s had patches, and an anti-cheat developer’s plea to the DayZ team is getting a lot of eyes.
