Self-Hosted Games This Week — 5 Oct–11 Oct 2026

Hello server owners! Every week we look at what’s actually happening in the self-hosted gaming world — server-relevant updates, new mods, and community highlights worth your click. Here’s your week.

Project Zomboid — Sims-Style Building, New 3D Maps

The big builder news: Better Building Plus, a Sims-style building mod with proper rendering, is out now — if your server leans heavily on base-building roleplay, this changes what players can construct, so read the changelog and test in a quiet session before enabling it for everyone. Map news on two fronts at once: the 3D Muldraugh update is now on its fifth revision (replays for everyone who missed the earlier ones: this is the big long-term map upgrade), and the Lost Province mod — a re-creation of Prince Edward Island — has been updated for B42. Both are worth a spot in your next mod round-up. 3D Muldraugh update 5 Lost Province B42 update

Lethal Company — Sapsucker Weather, Suggestion Saturday

The gameplay-discussion thread of the week: a player noticed that killing the Sapsucker in stormy weather behaves differently and asked the community whether anyone else has seen it — weather-sensitive enemy behaviour is exactly the kind of thing dedicated server hosts should pin to a version before it shifts under your players’ feet. Rounding out the week: the standing Suggestion Saturday thread collected the usual wish list (and the usual arguments), and the modding side of things kept running through “mod folder help” and “best insanity mod?” threads — a reminder that your server’s mod list is a living document, not a one-time install. Palworld — Palfarm Is the “True Spin-Off”

Franchise news: the Palworld lead explained in an interview why he considers Palfarm the only “true spin-off” among Pocketpair’s upcoming Pal games — and calls More Than Just Pals a “little goofy thing.” The interview fueled a wave of speculation threads about the franchise roadmap. For server hosts the practical line: the base game and its mods are exactly what your infrastructure runs on, so the spin-off news is for the hype, not for your update queue. Palfarm interview

Community flavour: the 1.0 Handiwork tier list debate keeps grinding (and yes, someone lost a base to a raid boss their spouse summoned in the main base — full thread), and a very relatable hosting thread about a paid server whose friends “are never on” is doing the rounds — which, for what it’s worth, is why a community-facing server beats a private one for staying alive. Paid server, no players

DayZ — Bikes Win Fans, Old Bugs Get Attention

Last week’s bike bug-fest has settled into appreciation: “Loving the new bikes!” is this week’s community verdict, which suggests the vehicle changes landed better than the initial bug reports implied. If you haven’t done it yet, a test run of the new spawns and paths is still a sensible pre-update step for a populated server. Loving the new bikes

Meanwhile the long-tail bug thread of the week is the gun-firing-unintentionally bug, “in the game for 9 years”, which keeps drawing exasperated clips. And the Sakhal scenery & atmosphere showcase went viral — a reminder that your server’s lighting and spawn settings are half the experience. 9-year-old gun bug Sakhal vibes
